My name is Fabien and I am currently a photographer without any formal training. I got my hands on my first camera in my early teens, growing up on the remote Cortes Island in British Columbia, where I started shooting mostly nature and abstract, patterned subjects. Back then I had a fascination, a dream of focusing on portraiture photography, but being on a desolate island - I did not have many willing subjects. This dream flourished about 5 years later when I moved to Vancouver.
This is where I began peering through the cracks of society to catch glimpses of the authenticity, community and spirit that the city had to offer. I started shooting a lot of friends and strangers, musicians and generally free spirits & I realized how beautiful people are from all unique walks of life.
In my photography, I like to explore with different angles, spaces, reflections and light to fuel my desire to capture my subjects portraying stories that are not obvious at first. I like to evoke the passage of time, the feeling that lay behind their eyes and body language; Where they have been and where they hope to go.
When I take my photos, I like to think that I am exploring fragments of life in its most honest form - unstaged and genuine.
